Quick mode assumes a standard commercial office with a standard
envelope — prescriptive insulation, ordinary glazing, no
airtightness testing — plus no backup power, no on-site water storage,
ground-floor critical systems and a steel frame. If your project is a
data centre, hospital, lab, shelter, school or anything operating 24/7,
or has backup power or a hardened envelope, those assumptions will
change the result. Use Detailed for anything other than a
standard office.
Note that this tool does not look up the energy or building code in force at your address, and never rates a building relative to it. A “code minimum” envelope means very different things in Seattle and in Phoenix, so the Detailed questions ask what your assemblies are, not how they compare to local code.
